I recently bought a Sprint Evo from someone on craigslist. Met at sprint store. phone looks good. Took into Sprint and ESN checked out as clean. They then went on to swap my phones out and it successfully showed up on my account. When he tried to activate it, it just kept saying "hands free activation" and showing the little circle thing meaning it was TRYING to activate. It never activated. Called the lady back that i bought it from and she said she had it checked out before she tried to sell it and it was fine. Next day, i took it to another sprint store and they told me the same thing. and said they've never seen that happen before. Said ESN is clean but think something is wrong with the actual phone. Please help........

I am going to say it's probably one of 3 things...
1: Custom ROM with the Sprint provisioning feature removed... 2: Modified ESN. 3: Someone swapped the case on the phone and the ESN is not the same as programmed to the board. If you goto the About Phone page and check the phone's serial number, does it match the one on the sticker under the battery? If you try to enter into the EPST programming menu, will it? This is done by typing ##xxxxxx# where the x represents the 6 digit MSL code (Sprint will provide to you). If you haven't already, call and get the manual device programming info. This will consist of the MSL, MDN and MSID. |

just wanted to give you an update. been on the phone with sprint for hours today. serial # in phone matches the one on the sticker. we tried updating profile and restting phone and lots of other things. could never get anything to connect. Until...... they had me do something to the phone and it changed on the main screen from "No Service" to "DIGITAL ROAMING". then i went under Settings; then Wireless Networks; then the second Mobile Networks; then ROAMING. We discovered that when its set on "sprint only" it shows NO signal and has an X above it. But when we changed it to "Automatic" it had signal with a triangle above it. and i am now able to make calls. but the signal bars go up and down alot. sprint said if phone is left like that then every call i make will use my anytime minutes. They think its something to do with my signal. do you have any ideas on what could be wrong and is it worth fixing? thanks so much!

The triangle means the phone is roaming, and using another tower, such as Verizon, or US Cellular, etc.
If "Home Only" mode doesn't give you any signal, it is likely that where you are has weak Sprint signal, OR the phone's PRL needs updated to reflect new changes to local towers, or roaming agreements. You can call Sprint and ask them to issue a PRL update, or take it to your local Sprint store and have them do it for you. |
